With a heavy heart and a clear mind, I realized last morning that you suffered a major defeat. As a long-time supporter of the Republican Party, I do not claim that this situation was unforeseeable. This year has made me look at the party from its internal perspective, but also through the eyes of my adult children. I did not lose because our principles failed. No, we lost because so many of our leaders have drifted away from those principles. The light is gradually going out, and the dimming torch is kept strictly guarded instead of being passed on to the next generation. [1]
The next generation does not feel heard, known, valued, or respected. I realize this as the mother of 15 children, ranging in ages from 11 to 27 years old. These are passionate and principled individuals who want a ballot filled with leaders fighting *for* them, not *against* them. What matters most? Going along the listening thread of discussions with my adult children and the young parents around me, it all comes down to a few fundamental concepts: freedom, life, free speech, justice, and the right to pursue your own happiness without government interference. [1]
Youth desires low taxes, reduced bureaucracy, and increased trust. They want roads that lead somewhere, not wider highways or huge parking lots. They want clean air and water, safe food, vibrant neighborhood stores, diverse farms, and safe and accessible communities. They want the state to back off their businesses, bedrooms, and medicine cabinets. They do not want to be forced into vaccinations nor punished for keeping chickens or selling eggs to neighbors. [1]
They do not want to be burdened by the debts of previous generations, which spent without measure. They do not want wars in Iran or Ukraine, nor an inheritance of broken promises. They want the freedom to educate their children in a way that surpasses what current public schools offer, and believe students should not be medicated just to sit quietly during monotonous lessons. They desire neighborhood schools they can walk to, where practical skills are taught, not standardization. They are tired of politicians who look the other way when their friends drink on private islands and do things that shouldn't be done. [1]
They are tired of waste, fraud, and abuses. They do not want artificial intelligence robots to run the country, nor data centers that look like prisons. They do not want eminent domain to be used against them in favor of private companies. They want to return to basics: building families on one person's income, so someone creates a home for children. They want spiritual faith and churches taking firm stands. They want leaders they don't have to be ashamed of, and street criminals in high office. They want to raise the next generation in a country where a mother's stomach is not a dangerous place for a child. [1]
These are not new ideas. They are the ideas upon which this nation was built. Many of these values are based on the bedrock of freedom, which the Republican Party has always claimed to support. These are the principles for which our soldiers went into battle. Last night, a nation that still holds onto the principles that made America great told us it no longer believes that we, Republicans, respect them. [1]
