Sam Forstag, the new 32-year-old Democratic representative from Montana, recently won an important seat in the House of Representatives, defeating his Republican rival during yesterday’s midterm elections. This victory is seen as a clear manifestation of the “blue wave,” particularly given that in Montana, where the cost of living has risen exponentially due to an influx of billionaires and technology companies, housing affordability and healthcare access have been central issues.

Before entering politics, Forstag worked for eight years for the U.S. Forest Service, primarily to fund his higher education. He spent four years as an aerial smokejumper, fighting wildfires in various locations, including spending four years airborne over fire-affected areas. This experience inspired his love for high-quality durable clothing, such as Levi's jeans and Goodyear-welted boots, which explains why he wore work attire during his political campaign.

On Saturday evening, in front of his supporters in Missoula, Forstag delivered his victory speech wearing a hickory striped shirt, jeans, an enormous western buckle belt, and a pair of worn brown firefighting boots. This outfit starkly contrasts with the business-casual look preferred by political candidates, though it is not a unique phenomenon—Tim Walz, John Fetterman, and others have used classicist sartorial codes as symbols of working-class solidarity.
