The Brașov City Hall announced that the new digital application at the Brașov Municipal Cemetery has been launched. The newly implemented digital platform gives visitors the ability to quickly locate grave plots without having to search among the cemetery avenues.
This facility is intended to meet citizens' needs, especially those who rarely visit the cemetery or have difficulty locating grave plots. We are pleased that this initiative is appreciated by people from Brașov and that the modernization of public services can bring concrete benefits to the community,
The cemetery administered by the municipality in Brașov is officially known as the Municipal Cemetery, located at 19 Dimitrie Anghel Street. Currently, the cemetery covers an area of approximately 20 hectares, housing around 45,000 grave plots, meaning it is over 95-98% full; therefore, the local administration is seeking solutions for expansion or land for a new cemetery.

The Central Cemetery in Brașov has a digital application / Visitors can quickly identify grave plots
The digital platform implemented by Brașov City Hall at the Municipal Cemetery enables the quick identification of grave plots, helping visitors who rarely come to the cemetery avoid searching through the pathways. [2]
The system operates via interactive panels installed in the cemetery and QR codes, facilitating the visualization of the path to the tomb on a mobile phone. [2]
The interactive panel is temporarily installed inside the cemetery administration building, with plans to place a similar device outside in the near future. [2]
The new functional system, announced by Brașov City Hall on Thursday, is based on a comprehensive database containing information about deceased individuals and their relatives. [2]
Locating is done by entering the name of the deceased, after which the screen displays a red-marked route and an image of the tomb, which can be continued on a mobile phone after scanning the QR code. [2]
Mayor George Scripcaru confirmed that, following data updates and full cartography, the administration now possesses complete information about the cemetery’s contents, including the identities of the deceased and their families. [2]
The development of the platform involved photographing, scanning, and inputting all grave plots into a database, along with identification data correlated with official records and funeral inscriptions. [2]
The digital system is available online and covers approximately 41,000 grave plots in both the Municipal Cemetery and the Șprenghi Cemetery, the two civil cemeteries administered by the municipality. [2]
Cartographer Bogdan Andrei, the project’s author, considers the initiative a national first due to the combination of interactive panels and mobile location finding via QR scanning. [2]
The total cost of the digitization project was estimated at approximately 300,000 lei. [2]

The system is already operational and accessible through interactive panels installed within the cemetery grounds and via QR codes. This feature eliminates the need for relatives visiting the gravesite to search through the pathways. [3]
The digital solution is particularly intended for people who visit the cemetery occasionally or who have difficulty identifying graves in the green complex. Representatives of the Brașov Municipal Cemetery specified that the platform is part of a broader public service modernization process, primarily aimed at facilitating citizens’ visits. [3]
