Yolanthe Cabau offered an emotional tribute to Wesley Sneijder’s parents, who passed away within the last two years, as part of the Día de los Muertos celebration she observes annually. On Instagram, Yolanthe shared a poignant moment with her fans, explaining the significance and beauty of the Mexican tradition of honoring the memory of loved ones, seen as an act of love and gratitude. Although not of Mexican origin, Yolanthe lives in Los Angeles, a community with strong Mexican cultural traditions, and respects the custom of keeping the memories of the deceased alive through joyful and luminous festivities. The actress addressed frequent questions from the public regarding the symbolism of skull makeup and flowers, noting that misinterpreting the appearance can be misleading, but the essence of the ritual remains profoundly human. Yolanthe described the celebration as being filled with love and memories, transforming the sadness of loss into a moment of spiritual connection and gratitude for the life of the departed. For Cabau, the Day of the Dead represents the coexistence of pain and joy, encouraging people to dance, pray, and send positive energy to the deceased, balancing between the tear of separation and the smile of gratitude. Yolanthe conveyed the message that it is possible to miss someone while crying, yet simultaneously reconnect with loved ones and those who have passed in spirit through joy, laughter, and a boundless love. The celebration took place in the presence of her mother and her son, Xess Xava, who wrote the names of his deceased grandmothers-in-law, Sylvia and Barry, in chalk on the sidewalk, accompanied by a lit candle in their honor. Sylvia, Wesley Sneijder’s mother, died in 2023 at the age of 59 due to lung cancer, while Barry, her husband, passed away in February 2025 from the same illness, meaning they lost both parents within a span of two years.
