Helen Webb, played by Keira Knightley, continues to pass state secrets to members of the underwater organization 'Black Doves,' creating increased pressure given that her husband, Wallace, is preparing to become Prime Minister. In the new season, Helen takes on the role of the prime minister's wife, declaring in the trailer: 'I am the prime minister’s wife now, but it’s hard for him to trust me.' Her survival depends, according to her advisor, Reed, on her ability to 'remain good at lying.' [1]
The plot focuses on the fact that two 'Black Doves' agents are found dead, and her advisor, Mrs. Reed, disappears, becoming caught up in a conspiracy aimed at removing her from the organization. Helen must work alongside new allies, including the character played by Ambika Mod, named Laila, a 'Black Doves' agent known for her sarcastic and anarchic personality, and her former lover and partner, Sam Young, played by Ben Whishaw. The latter is once again drawn into the world of assassins, having to deal with the consequences of the Clark family's heirs and new challenges. [1]
The main cast, which also includes Sarah Lancashire, Andrew Buchan, Ella Lily Hyland, and Gabrielle Creevy, returns for the second season. Joining them are new faces such as Ambika Mod, Babou Ceesay, who plays Mr. Conteh, an executive of 'Black Doves' with suspicious motives, Sam Riley, Neve Campbell, and Sylvia Hoeks. The series creator, Joe Barton, has stated that the season will explore the characters' past decisions and provide resolutions for conflicts left unresolved at the end of the first season. [1]
The first three episodes of the series have been distributed to editors and critics. The show is a spy thriller created by Joe Barton, previously known for his work on 'Giri/Haji' and 'The Lazarus Project', and 'Black Doves' was renewed before the launch of its first season due to strong interest from the platform.
