Simu Liu, widely known for his role in 'Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' and his latest theatrical appearance in 'Oh, Mary!', was present at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards, which he described as 'more relaxed' than the Met Gala. The actor, who had just arrived from Los Angeles, explained that he looks forward to socializing with representatives of major brands and reconnecting with friends. [2] [1]

From the awards, Liu left without being unrecognized: dressed in an ensemble consisting of a cropped 'truckerman' jacket and wide-leg trousers, both crafted from black silk jacquard woven with bamboo. This creation is by Canadian-Asian designer Haoran Li, founder of the brand Private Policy. The symbolic detail of the material was highlighted by Li, who noted that bamboo is one of the 'Three Gentlemen' in Chinese culture, a symbol of integrity and resilience, 'crying in the storm but never yielding.' Liu's presence at the event was not merely symbolic but also mission-driven. He represented the White Rabbit Trust, which supports Asian American (AAPI) creatives and entrepreneurs. The organization included the 'Emerging Designers Table,' a mentorship program through which industry leaders such as Jason Wu guided young AAPI designers. For this evening, the White Rabbit Trust chose the actor himself as the 'muse' for designer Haoran Li. [1]

Liu’s sartorial style has visibly evolved over time. The actor admitted that growing up in a working-class family, it took him time to develop his own sense of fashion in adulthood; the first brand that captured his attention was Abercrombie & Fitch. Today, he uses his platform to promote independent labels, as he did at the premiere of 'Shang-Chi' in 2021, when he wore a silk kimono tuxedo created by Chelsea Scott-Blackhall of the brand Dzojchen. The responsibility of representing the Asian diaspora was something Liu handled with care, particularly after the release of 'Crazy Rich Asians' (the first studio film with a 100% Asian cast in 25 years) and 'Shang-Chi' (Marvel's first Asian superhero film). He felt the pressure to make history, a thing he does not regret. Beyond his famous image, the actor expressed his desire to take more initiative in his career, producing and starring in the espionage thriller series 'The Copenhagen Test,' as well as intending to become a director.
