Eric Dane, known for his roles in the series *Grey's Anatomy* and the film *Euphoria*, passed away in February 2023 at the age of 53, having been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Charcot disease). A few months before his death, the actor was diagnosed with this progressive neurodegenerative condition that affects motor neurons. Since then, he and his family have focused on managing the condition and supporting other patients with disabilities.
The actor’s wife, Rebecca Gayheart, recently gave an interview to the *Today* show, hosted by Maria Shriver, during which she shared the harrowing details of Eric Dane’s final moments. She explained how the situation became much more critical in early January 2023, when Eric lost his motor and communication abilities. As a result, neither she nor their child could communicate with him verbally anymore, although he remained conscious and communicative through other means, including video clips.
During the interview, Rebecca Gayheart said, “I wanted Eric’s legacy to inspire and help people living with Charcot disease. I wanted to give his journey hope and a better world for those who follow.” She said that she does not know how to live without Eric and will never forget how wonderful it was with him and their children.
