Harry Whittaker, son of writer Lucinda Riley, has taken over the responsibility of a successful literary franchise by launching the novel 'Orlando'. The book is a spin-off of the famous 'The Seven Sisters' series, created by his mother before her passing. [1]
In an interview with the publication Femina, Whittaker explained the motivation behind this literary choice. He emphasized the fundamental importance of Charles Dickens' work 'A Christmas Carol' in the structure and atmosphere of his narrative. [1]
According to the author, 'A Christmas Carol' is not just a Christmas story and about the spirit of the holidays, but a complex work marked by dark and disturbing elements. Whittaker appreciates the way Dickens uses paranormal elements to force the protagonist, Scrooge, to confront the truths he has avoided throughout his life. [1]
Whittaker states that he wanted to create a book that rediscovered the magic of fairy tales and the power of literature over the centuries. Considering Dickens' major cultural impact, with characters and language remaining anchored in the collective imagination after nearly two hundred years, he considered its opposite the most suitable option to continue his mother's legacy.
