Emily Caldwell has recovered her nine-year-old cat Luna after she accidentally journeyed south for around 280 miles, ending up in Yorkshire near Hull. The cat, missing from his home in the Shawlands area of Glasgow since October 9th, was located in a rural location near Winestead after he had hidden inside a van driven by a member of staff at an educational institution, who didn't know they had a passenger when they left for Hull. Mrs. Caldwell, 34, said hope was lost after weeks, when she received an email on October 29th from a student who thought she had found him. Initially, pictures sent raised doubts because Luna appeared thinner, but a later video confirmed the identity of the pet. Mrs. Caldwell was surprised to learn where the cat had been found, which is near the coast of York, at a distance from Glasgow. [2] [1]
The students from the College for International Cooperation and Development, where Luna was discovered, cared for him, feeding him and providing shelter. They contacted a vet, who scanned the cat's microchip, but it did not immediately lead to contacting the owner. Later, the students conducted research and identified an announcement posted by Mrs. Caldwell on the PawBoost app used for lost pets. Using a microchip number recorded by the owner, the vet performed a new scan and confirmed that Luna was indeed the missing cat. [2] [1]
As time went on and in the third week there were no signs he had even been seen, we decided he must have had an accident and been hit by a car or something similar. It was a complete mystery and I simply accepted that we wouldn’t see her again, we were very sad, it was extremely anxious weeks,” said the mother of one child. “Then I got an email from someone who saw the ad on PawBoost. If I hadn't listed it there I don’t think we would have gotten her back.” [2] [1]
Mrs. Caldwell’s father, who lives in northern England, drove to Hull to pick up Luna and bring her home to Glasgow. Luna arrived at her destination on October 31st, causing joy among her owners. Mrs. Caldwell said that when Luna was found, she was smiling wide all day long and feeling like everything was okay in the world again, “It’s such a relief not to worry about what might happen to my cat.” [2] [1]
Although Luna returned thinner and lacking a tooth, she suffered no other serious injuries from her adventure, yet slept for several days straight upon returning. Mrs. Caldwell noted that Luna acquired new skills after having to fend for herself. “Since coming back, it seems like he became friends. Looks wilder now because he had to survive alone and started jumping to heights I haven’t seen before like jumping onto the top shelf,” she explained, emphasizing that she is sure the cat has grown strong and healthy. The cat experienced an intense experience but was happy to return safely. [2] [1]
