In a Halloween-themed post, veteran actor Dan Aykroyd, aged 74, revealed details behind the iconic film 'Ghostbusters', confirming that the project entered the filming stage just before the official name rights were finalized. Aykroyd explained on the X platform (formerly Twitter) that at the time, the title was already owned by Taft Broadcasting as part of a serious TV series also titled 'Ghostbusters', which focused on a different story and starred Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker, along with a ghost-hunting gorilla. Aykroyd noted that although the team lacked proton packs or actor Bill Murray at the time of the title decision, Columbia Pictures paid $500,000 to purchase the rights to the name. However, the actor emphasized that the money would have been better used if it had been directed to Dean Martin, from whom he himself adopted the term. He recalled the scene from the film 'Scared Stiff' (1953), where Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, inside a haunted castle, present themselves as “Ghostbusters,” responding to character Lizabeth Scott’s question about their identity. Aykroyd’s reflections were supplemented by comments from Ernie Hudson, a member of the main cast, made in 2024 at Galaxy Con Columbus. Hudson credited Harold Ramis with the crucial role of turning the film into reality, highlighting his ability to maintain team unity through the universal respect he inspired. Ramis played a decisive role in bringing back those who had abandoned the project to the negotiating table. [1]
Initially released in 1984, 'Ghostbusters' was followed by a sequel and a recent trilogy of remakes, solidifying its status as a pop culture classic. [1]
