Here is how to use sodium percarbonate to whiten, disinfect, and refresh clothes, according to the intended goal, along with advice from chemical engineer Diego Fernández. [1]
For regular washing, chemical engineer Diego Fernández recommends adding two tablespoons of sodium percarbonate, alongside your usual detergent. This method aims to boost detergent efficiency, disinfect laundry, and eliminate unpleasant odors. The specialist emphasizes that the wash cycle should be set to a temperature between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius to achieve optimal effect. [1]
If the primary goal is to whiten clothes, the procedure requires a pre-wash treatment. Fernández suggests dissolving two tablespoons of sodium percarbonate in three liters of hot water. The clothes should be soaked in this solution for one hour, after which they can be washed normally. This soaking step is an additional process and does not replace the subsequent washing cycle. [1]
For stain removal, it is recommended to prepare a paste mixture of sodium percarbonate and very hot water. Apply the paste directly to the stain and let it act for 10 minutes. Afterwards, gently rub the area; the process can be repeated if necessary until the stain completely disappears, before washing the garment according to the usual procedure. [1]
