Steven Nsimba is going through a complicated period at Universitatea Craiova, and a parting of ways with the team from Bănia seems increasingly likely. The French striker no longer enjoys the same status as last season, when he played an important role in the progress of the Oltensians and received a starting place in the first-team lineup.
Arriving on a free transfer the previous summer, Nsimba concluded that campaign with impressive figures: 13 goals and 7 assists, playing a decisive role in winning the double. In the current season, however, his performances have not been at the same level, and the minutes he has received have become fewer and fewer.
The situation is all the more interesting because the footballer is in the final year of his contract. In the past, FCSB tried to lure him into a move that would have included an exchange with Aymen Boutoutaou, but the negotiations did not materialize.
Meanwhile, Steven Nsimba has spoken about his future and admitted that he is considering leaving Craiova. The Frenchman revealed that he had received several proposals, but none convinced him. His statements suggest that his priority would be to continue his career in Europe if a suitable opportunity arises.
“Craiova is a club accustomed to fighting for the top five positions, but we had an exceptional season, which brought us our first title in 35 years. We received offers, mostly from clubs in China or the countries of the Gulf. That is not the type of challenge I took up football for!”, admitted Steven Nsimba, in an interview with the French newspaper Le Berry Républicain. [1]
The forward’s future at the club remains uncertain, given that his contract is approaching its end. When asked about his plans after the match against FC Voluntari in the Romanian Cup, the footballer revealed that the contractual situation has not yet been discussed with the club's management. Until now, there has been no meeting regarding a possible extension of the agreement.
“It was a hard, quite difficult match. We managed to equalize, take a point, it’s good. I feel fine, I am ready when the coach calls on me. Everyone wants to play as much as possible, it’s normal. My contract? It’s my last year, I haven’t spoken to anyone about an extension yet!”, Steven Nsimba further revealed after the match. [1]
