Kevin Costner, the celebrated American actor and director known for iconic roles in films such as 'Field of Dreams', 'The Bodyguard' and the series 'Yellowstone', has entered a new field of activity: perfumery. The 70-year-old actor recently launched a collection of three premium fragrances, titled '19-69 x Kevin Costner', developed in partnership with the Milan-based niche perfumery house 19-69, founded by Johan Bergelin and his wife, Catharina. The collection reflects significant moments in Costner's life, combining personal memories with a sophisticated aesthetic. [1]

The story of the collaboration began eight years ago, at a moment of unexpected inspiration. Costner was on a promotional tour in Germany and was impressed by the scent of a shower product available in his hotel room. Although he initially failed to identify the exact components, the scent returned to his memory later while he was in Scotland for the filming of the western epic 'Horizon'. Finding the same product again in a Glasgow hotel, the actor photographed the bottles and sent them to his assistant, who subsequently contacted the 19-69 brand. This incident triggered the creation of Costner's first fragrance, 'Rainbow Bar', inspired by the glam rock culture of the 1980s and the Californian atmosphere. [1]

The collaboration was formalized in 2024, after Costner and Johan Bergelin had their first face-to-face meeting in Cologne, Germany. The partnership led to twenty months of development for a collection of three perfume extracts, produced in France. The collection includes 'After Hours', 'Heritage' and 'Pacific Coast Highway', each with a retail price of 80 dollars for a 7.5 milliliter bottle, 300 dollars for 30 ml and 800 dollars for the 95 ml version. [1]

'After Hours' is the signature of the collection, described as an amplified version of the fragrance 'Rainbow Bar'. The notes include cypress, bourbon and nutmeg, evoking the image of a man looking out at the city from a glass house in the Hollywood Hills at sunset. Costner associates this scent with a famous still from 1989, shot for Vanity Fair magazine by legendary photographer Helmut Newton, when he wore a tuxedo and bow tie. [1]

'Pacific Coast Highway' is a lighter fragrance, with notes of clementine, juniper berries and jasmine. Inspired by California beaches and the experience of a warm shower after a day at the beach, it is Johan Bergelin's favorite. Costner mentions that the scent reminds him of the 1968 hit by Tommy James and the Shondells, 'Crystal Blue Persuasion', describing it as a 'light sensory moment'. [1]

The third fragrance, 'Heritage', is a rich masculine composition, inspired by life at Costner's ranch in Aspen, Colorado. It contains notes of cherry, violet leaves, amber and vanilla, resulting in a scent that blends sweetness with whiskey notes. Costner associates this fragrance with the massiveness of wood and memories related to hunting and firearms, which he considers heritage objects, similar to jewelry. [1]
