A TikTok user compared prices at five Spanish supermarket chains - Mercadona, Lidl, Carrefour, Aldi, and Consumer - to determine which was the most affordable. The test involved purchasing the same list of products, including milk, chicken breast, salmon, eggs, tomatoes, bananas, iceberg lettuce, and Greek yogurt, at all stores. [1]

In the initial phase of the test, the consumer paid the lowest amount at the Consumer store (17.8 euros) and the highest at Lidl (22.9 euros). However, this 5-euro difference was influenced by the fact that at Consumer, chicken breast and salmon were purchased at significant discounts due to approaching expiration dates, and yogurts were bought in packs of four pieces, not six, as was the case with competitors. [1]

After recalculating prices for identical quantities, especially to equalize variations in the weight of vegetables, fruits, and meat, the ranking completely reversed. Lidl became the cheapest store, closely followed by Aldi (second place), then Carrefour, Mercadona, and Consumer took last place, being the most expensive among the group. The total difference between the cheapest and most expensive store was only 1.4 euros. [1]
